MP3s and WMAs and even listen to the radio. Windows XP Media Center Edition
2005 is an operating system that enables you to enjoy the best in home
entertainment, personal productivity, and creativity on your home PC in an
easy, complete, and connected way. With Media Center Edition 2005, you can
store, share, and enjoy all of your photos, all of your music, all of your
home video, and even recorded TV in one sleek and easy to use place.
Computers powered by Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 are called Media
Center PCs. They are complete Windows XP-based PCs enhanced for home
entertainment. These computers represent the evolution of home PCs into
digital media hubs that bring together your entertainment choices and allow
you to access them with one remote control.
Media Center PCs are complete
entertainment PCs!
Each new Media Center PC may include the following components to enhance
your entertainment experience:
- A Media Center compatible remote
control that keeps all of the entertainment on your computer within easy
reach and complements the keyboard and mouse.
- A remote infrared (IR) sensor that enables the remote control to
communicate with the computer and also controls your cable or satellite
set-top box.

- A digital audio output that allows you to integrate digital audio from
your computer into an existing home entertainment system.

are optimized for Windows XP and are especially useful when installed on a
Media Center PC.
How Media Center Works
At first glance, the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 interface looks
the same as XP Home or Professional. However, once you plug the wireless
transceiver into one of your PC’s USB ports and press the Start button on
the included remote control, a menu of multimedia options appears. To
optimize the remote control functions and make it easier for you to perform
interactive activities, Microsoft created an interface that’s easy to read
and navigate, even if you’re riding your stationary bike at the other side
of the den.
Media Center’s My TV Feature
With Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you can record live TV, so you
can watch all your favorite shows on your schedule. Windows XP Media Center
Edition now features dual tuner support plus support for a third
over-the-air local HDTV tuner, so you can watch and record up to three
different shows at the same time.
Record Your Favorite TV Shows
You can pause the show you're watching while you explore upcoming TV
programs with the Electronic Program Guide. If you find something you don't
want to miss, you can record it to watch later.
